Katie Greer & Travis Shoemaker, Romantic Candle-lit Wedding

Remember Katie & Travis?

We so enjoyed being a part of their romantic candle-lit wedding last Friday night at Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Hendersonville. It was a terribly gray and rainy day but that did not dampen spirits of the many many friends and family who gathered to celebrate with them.

Travis looked great. He was keeping a close eye on his truck before the ceremony. He had a feeling there might be some funny business.

Katie was ready to rock n roll! I love this shot because it is so HER. She has carried a lot of the stress of the details of the wedding. She was SO ready to get down that aisle to Travis.

Katie's mother made this beautiful garter from the lace of her own wedding gown.

See how dreamy the church looked all lit up with candles? I love the warm glow on their faces. It was a really beautiful atmosphere.

Travis played the guitar and sang one of my favorite hymns, "It is Well."

The kiss was spectacular and full of joy!

My favorite shots at every wedding are after the bride & groom get down the aisle. Typically couples embrace and laugh and kiss and it's just pure happiness. Travis and Katie were no different. She grabbed his hand to look at his ring and it just worked out for me that I was paying attention. I love his ring.

This is a first for me, but I love it and hope that I see more of it. Travis's parents brought their family Bible, and had the minister and the best man (Travis's brother) sign and date it. So special.

A couple portraits I like

I love the perspective on this shot. Look how many people were waiting on them as they entered the reception!

A shot of Katie's bouquet and the embroidered ribbons hanging down. Nice detail.

Birdseed exit

Big kiss to end the evening.

Thank you so much for letting me be part of your wedding. Have a great honeymoon next week! Thanks also to Steph for coming along as my second shooter.

Another shot of Jeff & Anne's Wedding in Franklin

I am working on uploading one of my last weddings from 2007 tonight and I came across this striking image of Jeff & Anne's Wedding. I hadn't noticed it in my previous post. I love it when I find more images to fall in love with after I haven't seen them in a while.

I am only accepting a few more wedding commissions for 2008, so if you're interested let me know. I am trying hard to only accept the amount of business that I can handle appropriately now that I am balancing running a business with being a stay at home mommy too.

Brent & Mari - Sweet Murfreesboro Wedding

Brent & Mari were married Saturday at Southern Belle Wedding Chapel in Murfreesboro. It was a beautiful 60 degree day in February - not too unusual this year I guess.

Mari looked beautiful as her dad walked her down the aisle

Notice anyone familiar in this image? My husband Brad performed the ceremony for Brent & Mari. Brent's father Mike is Brad's boss. :)

Love this one - Mike is clapping and it was such a happy moment.

Mr. & Mrs Johnson

Love this one too. They exited to bubbles on their way to the reception.

Signing the marriage certificate. It's official now!

Mari moved in with Brent's parents for a while before the wedding. She left Brent little notes like this one and while we were signing the certificate I saw it and loved how Brent & Mari were reflected in the mirror.

The reception ended with a bonfire...

Perfect for snuggling.

Congratulations guys. May God richly bless your marriage. We love you!

Jeff & Anne, Joyful Franklin Wedding

Jeff & Anne were married yesterday and I am a better person for having attended their wedding celebration. It was full of joy and it glorified God and it was absolutely a blessing to me.

One of my favorite things on wedding day is spending some quality time with the bride while she prepares. I got to hang out with Anne and a couple of her bridesmaids while Anne's natural beauty was enhanced with hair styling and makeup at Carol G's Salon in Brentwood. I got to hear all about the rehearsal dinner and about how Anne's mind was racing with excitement and woke her up at 4AM to start the day.

The wedding took place at Grassland Heights Baptist Church in Franklin, TN. We arrived at the church to find Steve McLellan and the crew from Garden Delights in Franklin assembling the floral decorations in the sanctuary. They were so gorgeous and Anne's face lit up when she saw the bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids.

Jeff was already at the church and his guys arrived slowly but surely. I have enjoyed getting to know Jeff as well...he was just as excited about the ceremony as Anne and I love that.

Here's a shot of the guys taken by Phil Thornton, my second shooter for the day. I love this...Phil also got some hilarious shots of the guys on the church bus!

Anne's dress hanging in the brides room

Phil grabbed this one of me getting a few shots of Anne

Anne was SO proud of her bouquet, and especially the gerber daisies in it. It was the perfect compliment to her gorgeous dress.

We stepped outside for a few minutes for some portraits of Anne, and her dad helped her walk on the soft ground. I love the look on his face here.

Flower girls Rachel and Kelly were great! Anne's mom made their dresses, and according to Kelly, they are very twirly!

OK - this ceremony was SO emotional. Jeff began by welcoming everyone and thanking them for attending. He was choking back the tears as he expressed his thanks to God for the gift of Anne as his bride. He prayed for God to give her peace and comfort as she was about to walk down the aisle. I snapped this shot of Jeff as he prayed.

Another prayer during the ceremony - the parents came up and did a prayer of blessing towards the end as the congregation sang "Amazing Love."

After Jeff & Anne exited the church they were all smiles and couldn't stop beaming at each other. Love that sunshine coming through the windows.

The wedding party

We traveled to the Cool Springs Marriott for the reception. When we entered, the room was decorated in autumn flowers, nuts, berries and candles. It was nice.

Anne's dad, Colonel Goldsmith, was our entertainment for the evening. ;) Seriously, he hosted the reception and transitioned between several toasts, etc. He kept us laughing.

Bubbles for the exit

Last shot before Jeff & Anne headed to Cancun

Again, I want to emphasize how wonderful Jeff & Anne's wedding celebration was. I felt like I knew them so much better after spending time with all the people who love them - and there were many! Thank you for allowing me to share the day with you.

Brody and Kristin, Lovely LaVergne Wedding

I spent a few hours on Saturday at Miracle Baptist Church in LaVergne to photograph Brody & Kristin's wedding ceremony and reception.

Here's a shot of the bride's bouquet and toss bouquet, courtesy of Tom's Florist in Smyrna. Becky referred me to Kristin's Grandmother Liz, and for that I am so appreciative! Isn't this a pretty bouquet?

Josh & Becca, Inn at Bee Rock Wedding

Saturday was finally the taste of Fall weather we had been waiting for as we traveled up I-40 to Monterey, TN to spend the day with Josh & Becca. They chose the beautiful mountain bluff of Bee Rock as the location for their wedding ceremony and reception. The Garden Inn at Bee Rock was a gorgeous retreat for the entire family and wedding party to stay the night before the wedding, and for all of the preparation for the day.

Here's Josh and Becca. Aren't they so cute? We had a great time together.

I can't say enough about Becca's thoughtful attention to detail for this wedding. You'll see in the slideshow below, that there were many many little things that made the event great. One thing she special for her Mom and Josh's Mom was to have the flowers they carried for the ceremony be mini versions of their own wedding bouquets. Isn't that sweet? The Moms were speechless when they were told about the surprise.

A great shot of Becca by Kyle - my second shooter for the day.

I still hold firm that rose petals make the most beautiful photos if you are exiting during daylight hours. Kyle took this one as well - we had identical shots from different angles but I am featuring his because of the wider angle. Check out the expressions of all the people throwing their petals.

When I first met Josh & Becca about a year ago, they told me about their plans to spend the night at the Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville for their wedding night. We decided then to meet downtown for a quick photo session at night before they headed in to begin their honeymoon. This is one of my favorite shots that we got on Legislative Plaza in front of the War Memorial Auditorium.

Click the play button to watch the slideshow or click HERE to watch it full screen.

We had a great day. It was so laid back and really fun to be with this group of folks. Kyle and I had a fun time - here's a quick snap of us overlooking Bee Rock at 9AM when we arrived - it was still chilly then!

Quick Pick - Josh & Becca, Downtown Nashville

I have a busy Sunday ahead of me and I won't have time for a full post about Josh & Becca's wedding yesterday, but I wanted to put up a quick pick from our shoot in downtown Nashville last night.

Josh & Becca are off to Maui today for the week. Have fun guys! More soon.

Jake & Amy, Wedding at Old Natchez Country Club in Franklin

This weekend I was honored to photograph Jake & Amy's beautiful wedding at Old Natchez Country Club in Franklin. I had a blast with this couple and their friends and family - everyone was so sweet to us and it was a very enjoyable day!

We started the day at Symmetrix Salon in Murfreesboro. Amy and her Mom Ruth had their makeup done by the ultra talented Sandy Alsup. I love this shot I grabbed of Amy when Sandy told her that he was putting fake eyelashes on her! She felt like J-Lo and they looked awesome!

See what I mean? To my future brides - Having your hair and makeup professionally totally makes the difference in transforming you into a Bride with a capital B. That is my number one tip for having awesome wedding photos. Just spend the extra money (and it's usually under $200 total) for that professional touch.

After hair, makeup and a little lunch, we headed to the Country Club.

I am certain when Jake and Amy chose October 6 for their wedding day, they never dreamed that it would be 90+ degrees outside. But I know they were hoping for a nice sunny day like this one. There was a little breeze blowing that made all of our photos before the wedding a little more bearable.

I was excited to have Byrena Kirkham along as my second shooter for the day. Byrena has been a children's portrait photographer in Murfreesboro for many years and she is considering branching into wedding coverage. She did a great job. This is one of her shots from the ceremony where Amy was clutching Jake's hands while the minister was speaking.

I LOVE this shot of Amy & Jake! My favorite from the whole day. Kevin Warner with Accent Designs created the gorgeous flowers for the day.

Jake & Amy's reception was awesome. The DJ kept things going and the crowd stayed until the end of the wedding - always a sign of a great DJ. This was some of the excitement of the train!

Danielle & John were enjoying themselves. Danielle grew up with my husband Brad in Bolivar and she told her cousin Amy, the bride, that she needed to check out my photography for her wedding. I am SO glad that she did. Thanks Danielle!

Here's me and Byrena at the end of the evening. Thanks for all of your help - YOU ROCK!

I was able to put together your slideshow and it's a good one so make sure to watch it. Click the play button below or click HERE to view it full screen. Dave & Amanda's Wedding at the Yacht Club, Mt Juliet

Dave and Amanda were married Saturday at the Cedar Creek Yacht Club on Old Hickory Lake in Mt Juliet. We had perfect weather, which made this outdoor ceremony and reception quite enjoyable.

Here's Amanda, the beautiful bride. Her Casablanca gown was purchased at The White Room in Lebanon. Hair & Makeup by Mitzi's Hair Design. Flowers by Moss' Florist.

These bridesmaids were awesome. They took great care of Amanda all day long. Notice their necklaces, which Amanda AND Dave made for them.

Dave the handsome groom. I love his hair and his grin.

Dave with his groomsmen. I made some comment about taking a picture of their berries...you know, the ones that they are wearing on their lapels, but you can see it went downhill from there!

Love the smirk on this adorable flower girl. She was SO great. Dave & Amanda made her bracelet as well.

The reception decor was awesome. The oranges and yellows in the flowers were a great complement to the backdrop of the sun setting over the lake. These flowers were done by Moss' as well.

I rarely post pics of the groom's cake, but this one was so cute. Cakes by Patty Cakes and they were not just cute, but delicious.

Shot of Amanda & Dave on one of the docks. They chose to see each other before the ceremony and get all of the portraits done so they could go directly to the reception. It worked out GREAT - we had plenty of time to wander around the Yacht Club property and create some great images.

The sun set just as the ceremony ended. We got a few dreamy shots by the water before the light was gone.

Amanda & Dave chose a lot of songs that they loved to create a very relaxed atmosphere at the reception. Here they are dancing to some Dave Matthews Band. The guys from Cosmo Creations were the dj's for the evening.

Beautiful sunset

Here's me and Kyle at the end of the evening! Thanks Kyle for all of your help!

Crystal and Brandon, Spirit-Filled Wedding in Tullahoma

Crystal and Brandon. Two people who waited to find their true love. Two people who anticipated their wedding day with great desire. Two people who are seeking to honor God with their individual lives, and now with their lives as one flesh.

Matt and I were blessed to spend the day with this couple and their family and friends - all kind and gracious people. We met Crystal and Melanie at Impressions Day Spa and Salon in Decherd to start the day. The girls got their hair done and it turned out great!

From there we went to the Lakeside Club at Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma. This sits on the Woods Reservoir (lake) and provided a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and reception. April Cochran was the wedding coordinator who decorated the ceremony site, reception site and did all the flowers for the day. It all turned out great! Here's another shot of Crystal preparing for the day.

The beautiful bride. Gown is an Oleg Cassini by David's Bridal.

The handsome groom. Brown Tux by Street Tuxedo

Crystal and Brandon chose to see each other before the ceremony. This seems untraditional, but it is actually a really special time for couples who choose to do this. We chose a location by the lake where Brandon waited, and then Crystal walked up to him and they had a chance to really see each other, talk and pray before the ceremony. Then we had time for some relaxed portraits before we moved on with the rest of the busy day. Here's one of the shots we got during the private moment.

Rings...Brandon, you can finally wear your wedding ring and it is legit!

This is random but one of my favorite shots of the day.

The flower girls were all nieces of the bride and groom. Crystal's mom and grandmother made all of their dresses, headpieces and baskets, which is nothing short of amazing. Also amazing is that they all made it down the aisle without incident!

The moment when Crystal walked down the aisle with her father was probably the most spirit-filled moment I have experienced in a long time. Danielle and Brad were singing "Here am I, all of me..." and the drum beat was driving the music. The crowd stood, Crystal and her dad were both crying, and I could not hold back my own tears. I had chills. It was beautiful.

The guys looked great holding the bridesmaids flowers

Cake by Becker's Bakery

Toasting with Cream Soda

The getaway - we all trekked down the hill in the dark to line up by the boat dock. Sparklers lit up the night as the happy couple whisked away through the fireworks of friends and family to board a boat and ride off into the moonlit evening. It was amazing.

Mike & Julie, Beautiful Day for a Memphis Wedding

Mike & Julie were blessed with a gorgeous day to get married this past Saturday. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and everything came together just as it was planned.

Kyle and I spent some time with the girls at Gould's Day Spa & Salon in the morning, before heading over to Carahills, the site of the ceremony and reception.

Mike and his family were hanging out when we arrived.

A few details by Kyle

Cake by Your Wedding Cake Store

While Kyle stayed downstairs getting those detail shots, I went up to hang out with the girls. This is Julie's garter, which her mother made from lace off her own wedding dress.

Julie looked so elegant. Her gown was by Casablanca.

First dance

Mark Jordabella provided the DJ services for the afternoon.

Wedding party - we had to take advantage of this gorgeous day!

One big happy family. Caitlin and Samantha, Julie's daughters, were having a fun time and looked beautiful. My favorite part of the wedding ceremony was when Mike said vows to the girls as well as to Julie, to care for them, provide for them, love them (and sometimes discipline them!). I was struggling not to cry.

Here's Caitlin and some of her friends. I promised them a Facebook picture - so here you go!

The happy couple. They are off for a 2 week European honeymoon. Hope you have an AWESOME trip!

Joey & Amy, Elegant Knoxville Wedding

My weekend in Knoxville was so much fun. I was blessed to be a part of Amy & Joey's beautiful wedding and I am thrilled to show you some of the great images that we captured.

Matt made the trip to Knoxville to second shoot with me again, and we started our day with Amy and the bridesmaids at Venus Salon for hair styling. Then we headed over to Crescent Bend, the location of the reception, for the rest of our preparation and pre-ceremony photos.

Emotions were running high in the ladies camp on Saturday morning. Amy was so full of joy and anticipation that if she stopped long enough to think about it, her beautiful eyes welled up with tears. Darcey, the Maid of Honor, was quick on her feet to bust out a hilarious tale of her own relationship disasters starting with the fourth grade when she and Amy became friends (kind of, but that's a whole other story). This shot was just before Amy was getting ready to go out and see Joey. She caught a glimpse of herself all ready in the mirror and started to lose it. Darcey started telling a story that brought her tears back to a big laugh!

Just in case you're wondering, Amy's simple and elegant gown by Monique Lhuillier was purchased at White Lace and Promises.

When Amy finally got out to see Joey, it was another emotional moment. These two are so in love. The tears subsided quickly into a feeling of content and they quietly soaked in the moment.

A shot of the guys on the trolley - I think there were 10 guys...but they were so easy to work with!

Leah and the team at Whimsical Gatherings rocked the house with these flowers. Wait til you see some of the other floral decor in the slideshow. These girls are first class!

Amy was so great about the little details. This is her grandmother's earring dangling down from her bouquet.

The traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony was held at St George Greek Orthodox Church. Here's a shot during the crowning portion of the service.

Amy & Joey spent a few moments alone on the front steps of the church just following the ceremony. The emotions were pure and sweet. I love this shot.

Here's the Mother of the Groom and the Mother of the Bride with Adrienne Atchley, the wedding coordinator. The day seemed to go so beautifully - this is a dream team!

Joey & Amy's wedding cake was straight out of a bridal magazine. Magpies did a great job with this one.

Other vendors for the wedding include Rex Bradford Jones, Catering and Total Package Band provided the music that kept us dancing all night long!

Joey & Amy exited their reception to their friends and family tossing rose petals. I think petals make the most beautiful "exit" photos. They boarded the trolley and headed off to enjoy their honeymoon!

And, since I know you've been waiting, click to play the slideshow, or click HERE to view it full screen.

And to my bridesmaids, I really wanted to work the phrase "shiny & new" into the post somewhere, but I just couldn't figure out where...you girls were so much fun to hang with!

Congratulations Jason & Deborah, Franklin Wedding

Saturday was Jason & Deborah's big day in Franklin, Tennessee. I was excited once again to have Matt come to town to be my second shooter. Here's our self portrait for the week - pretty boring this time compared to the last few we've done.

We headed out bright and early at 7AM to join Deborah and the girls at Salon Suites in Cool Springs for their hair appointments. Deborah's stylist, Jeremy, had the coolest decor in his salon - complete with Craftsman tool boxes to hold his gear and green camo capes. So fun.

Here's a shot of Deborah's cathedral length veil hanging in waiting in Jeremy's suite

After the hair was finished, we went over to Saint Philip Catholic Church in Franklin for the ceremony. Matt hung out with the guys and I stayed with the girls, so many of my shots for this post are of the ladies.

Details...Deborah's father's handkerchief and her rosary beads for the day

This was a fun moment during the ceremony. There was a little confusion about which hand Jason's ring was supposed to go on...

Kind of an interesting take on "the kiss". The videographer and I were kind of in the same spots in the back of the church and I was having trouble getting in a good spot for the kiss because he was there. I knew Matt was up close in the front of the church, so I decided to try for something different. The videographer was able to zoom in a lot more than me, so I shot his LCD screen. I love how it came out.

Pure joy

This is a great casual shot of Jason & Deborah on the trolley.

This is one of my favorite pics from the day. Deborah was kicked back in the trolley and had her dress pulled up to let some air under it because it was SO hot. I love everything about this shot. Everything. Too cute!

The reception was held at Embassy Suites in Cool Springs. Check out the slideshow below for many many shots of us dancing the night away.

Here's Chris & Jonie. I photographed their wedding in September of 2006 (see this blog post) and they were kind enough to pass my info along to Deborah when she began her planning. It was fun to hang out with them during the reception! I love you guys!

Jason & Deborah delayed their honeymoon in Cancun until this Friday (instead of heading out to handle Hurricane Dean) so I know they are in town and will be excited to see their slideshow. click the play button below or click HERE to view it full screen.

Thanks for letting us be part of your big day!

Ricky & Nichole, Huntsville, AL Wedding

This past weekend I photographed the wedding of Ricky Bates & Nichole Nelson at the gorgeous Hampton House in Hampton Cove, Alabama (a suburb of Huntsville). Once again, the talented Matt Dunmore came along as my second shooter.

We began our day at the Masters Salon for hair appointments for Nichole, her two daughters Aubrey & Gabby, and Nichole's sister and bridesmaid Ashley. Nichole's hair looked incredible all day long - they did a fabulous job!

Then we followed Nichole to get her nails and makeup done at Terrame Day Spa. I can't say enough about this spa. I told Matt that he should have brought his wife Erin to this place instead of leaving her behind at the hotel all day long. I wouldn't have minded staying there myself for a manicure/pedicure and a massage! Anyway, I love Nichole's pouty lips in this shot.

This was Matt's idea and I jumped at the chance to capture it too. Ricky is a hunter - he had 8 mounted deer heads (I think) on the wall and also a fox or some other small animal. We put the rings on the deer antlers and I think it is a riot!

It took Ricky's Mom, me and then Ricky's Dad to get this flower pinned on properly.

Ricky got tickled during one part of the ceremony, which got Nichole tickled, and I love the looks on their faces during this shot.

Nichole's two daughters are nine and five years old. As a symbol of Ricky not just marrying Nichole, but also "marrying" the girls and committing to love them as a father, he gave the girls their own rings during the ceremony. This was my favorite special touch to this ceremony. What a statement about Ricky's priority on family. Here's all four of them showing off their new jewelry.

Here are the beautiful girls, playing by the water after the ceremony.

Ricky was talking to Gabby, when Aubrey jumped up on his back. Apparently this is something she does regularly and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and think fast enough to push the shutter button. I love the look on Aubrey's face!

Here's the girls showing off their "wedding rings."

The happy couple. Nichole looked like something out of a Grace Kelly movie. Very old Hollywood.

Love this shot of the dip at the end of Ricky & Nichole's first dance.

Other vendors to mention:
Nichole's dress - The Something Blue Shoppe
Florist - Arenda's Flower Garden
Band - Hashbrown
Catering - Cyn Shea's
Cakes - Dathern Moon

Slideshow will be posted in the next few days!

Jennifer & Darrell, Wedding at Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson, TN

OK - as promised, some photos from Jennifer & Darrell's wedding on 07-07-07, the most popular wedding day of the year!

Jennifer & Darrell were married at Montgomery Bell Stste Park in Dickson, TN. It was a HOT day, but that didn't stop this couple from tying the knot in front of a standing room only crowd.

Here's Jennifer's something new (her pearls) and her something old, borrowed and blue (grandmother's handkerchief).

Here's a shot of the bride before we left for the ceremony. Jennifer's hair was done by Linda at Sleek Stylin' in Dickson. It looked so graceful - a very classic style.

This is Breelyn, who was an adorable and well-behaved flower girl, despite the fact that she decided that she would rather head back down the aisle towards her Mommy and her juice cup in the middle of the prayer at the beginning of the wedding. This child is so beautiful...check out these pictures from Steph's Blog from their session this spring.

Darrell helped Jennifer down the hill for some photos.

The whole wedding party. I LOVE the clover green dresses from David's Bridal that Jennifer chose for her girls.

The reception was over at the King's Court in Burns, TN. There were tents set up out back overlooking the gardens. Jennifer's Dad David worked so hard to make sure things looked great. The food was excellent (poppyseed chicken is my FAVORITE) and there was plenty of sweet tea to go around.

We could not get over how pretty the cake was.

Darrell & Jennifer escaped their ceremony through a tunnel of sparklers, and climbed into their limo to be whisked away to the Sheraton. Enjoy the honeymoon guys!

To check out Jennifer & Darrell's slideshow, click the play button below, or click HERE to view it full screen.

Matt was my second shooter (yay) and he posted his images, slideshow and re-cap of the day on HERE on his blog. We have done so many weddings together now that we have it down to a fine art. Matt hangs with the guys, I hang with the girls, we cover two angles of the ceremony and reception...it's a beautiful thing. I work with a lot of talented photographers, but if you hear that it's Matt who will be attending your wedding with me, you are in for a real treat. Check out our self-portrait on Matt's blog - it's a riot this week!

Thanks to the Hale & Cook families for inviting us to share the day with you! God bless your marriage!

One Great Weekend, Two Great Couples!

I am blogging from a friend's house in Knoxville, as Norah and I are recovering from a busy weekend.

Saturday, Matt and I shot Jennifer & Darrell's wedding in Dickson. Here's a sneak preview until I can get home to blog properly with a slideshow!

After being away from Norah all day on Saturday for the first time, it was fun to embark on our first trip together on Sunday. Norah and I drove to Knoxville to meet up with Amy & Joey for their engagement session. They will be married in Knoxville in late August. Many thanks to Liz & Jim for opening their home to us, and to Amanda for keeping an eye on my "sidekick." Ha. Here's a quick shot of Amy & Joey until I can blog them appropriately as well!

We'll be headed home in just a bit because Norah misses her Daddy. Let's be honest - I miss him too! :)

Bob & Misty, Murfreesboro Wedding at Daffodil Hill

Oh my goodness, yesterday's wedding was fabulous. It honestly belongs on the pages of Southern Living Magazine (if anyone has a contact there you just let me know!).

Bob and Misty were married at Daffodil Hill, a plantation home in Murfreesboro that has been featured on HGTV. It was built in 1888 and restored to its state of classical beauty by its owner Kirby McNabb, who also served as our host and coordinator for the wedding yesterday.

Misty and the girls got ready at the home of Lyndell Parks. I loved this shot of Misty's dress in one of the bedrooms just before she put it on.

Another random favorite shot...we were out photographing Misty by the fountain in the back yard of Daffodil Hill. This little frog was sitting on the edge of the brick just taking it all in. Kind of reminds me of a fairy tale!

The girls bouquets were awesome. The flowers for the wedding were by Henry's Florist.

Bob and Misty wrote their own vows. These are Bob's...I like his editing.

The lawn of Daffodil Hill was packed with people. It was standing room only! The weather was warm but breezy. The sunset cast a nice warm glow to the ceremony.

The beautiful bride and groom

As dark came the house and the tent reception lit up the night. I like how the moon was small but shining bright in the sky.

Misty's grandmother, Halley Neal, or "Granny" as she's called more often, was the caterer for dinner and desserts, including this beautiful wedding cake. Halley's company is Granny's Gourmet, and all of the food was delicious. Especially the chocolate groom's cake and tuxedo strawberries!

The band, Minus One, provided the music for the night and they rocked! I had never heard them before but apparently they are a Murfreesboro favorite and I can see why. They played hard until the police actually came and shut the party down near midnight.

See what I mean? When they got the dancing started, the floor never cleared!

Here's Matt who attended the wedding as my second shooter for the day (thanks Matt, you're awesome) and Chris from Trinity Video Productions at the end of the evening. We all sweated it out together but I just know the three of us were able to "make history" with Bob & Misty and their family and friends. Good work team!

And of course, you're all waiting for this slideshow so I hope you enjoy it!

Steve & Donna, Wedding at Cool Springs Marriott, Franklin TN

Saturday Mom and I joined Steve & Donna at the beautiful Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin, TN for their wedding and reception surrounded by family and friends.

Donna & Steve work together at LabCorp and that's how they met. This is the third wedding I have done for folks in their office. It started in October 2005 with Joe & Kara's Wedding at Riverwood Mansion in Nashville, and I got to see Kara's parents, Joel & Katrina at the reception. Then in October 2006, I shot Sean & Dana's Wedding (you might remember this as the one I shot the day after I broke my arm...) at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Franklin. Sean & Dana were at the reception, and they are expecting a little girl in October 2007 (wahoooo!). Dana is glowing and looks so beautiful. All of that to say, if you work at Labcorp and you're engaged...you should probably call me because I love all of your friends!

Here's Donna's dress, hanging beautifully in her bridal suite at the Marriott.

Something old (sixpence), Something new (tiara), Something borrowed (grandmother's ring) and Something blue (UK garter)

Donna's daughter Krystal and her husband, who came in from Alaska for the wedding. They have only been married 6 months.

Here's a shot of the happy couple, making out in the lobby after the wedding ceremony. I love how these guys interact with each other.

Um, a favorite moment from the night. Donna wanted to adjust her tiara, and the only mirror that could be found was the one from under the flower arrangement on the head table. Donna's sister LaVette was the resourceful co-matron of honor who came up with this idea and it worked great!

A little cake...Steve was nicer than Donna.

Everyone loved the Chicken Dance! Can you hear the music in your head?

I love this shot of the awesome DJ, Ken Bodin, who is one of the best I have ever worked with. He kept this party alive until Donna & Steve were ready to drop. It was great to meet you Ken!

Mom grabbed this shot of Donna & Me just before the end of the night.

Thank you for inviting us to join you on this wonderful day! Slideshow is below, or click HERE to see it full screen. Click HERE to register to view the full gallery of wedding pictures when they are released to the public!

Donna & Steve - Quick Pick

I have a busy day ahead of me and won't be able to do a full post on Donna & Steve's wedding until later, but I thought I would do a "Quick Pick" and pick one that would give you a taste of the day.

Congratulations Donna & Steve! Have fun in St. Thomas!

Mike & Jen, Beautiful Brentwood Wedding

As I mentioned in my previous post, Matt Dunmore and I spent Sunday with Mike & Jen for their wedding at Brentwood United Methodist Church.

I chose this shot to open up this post about Mike & Jen's wedding because it highlights a key phrase for the whole day... "Great Joy." The love Mike & Jen have for each other and the way they live their lives demonstrates the Great Joy they have in their hearts.

When photographing the guys before the ceremony, I noticed Mike's tattoo on his ring finger. I am a sucker for a guy with a tattoo...

A shot of the radiant bride, from a different perspective.

One last attempt to get Alexis, the flower girl, to walk down the aisle. You can see we were unsuccessful.

This was right after the ceremony. Mike & Jen were SO joyful.

Once we wrapped up our group photos after the wedding, we ventured over to the Factory at Franklin for the reception. It was decked out in black, white and apple green and everything looked marvelous.

I am in love with this shot.

One of the best surprises of the night was when Mike's Dad brought Mr. Ben - the honorary ring bearer - to the reception. (I think I want to set Ben up with my Katy...she's a beautiful blonde too...don't you agree they would make the best couple?)

Other vendors that made this day wonderful:
Flowers: Elaine McCord Floral Designs
Tuxedos: Street Tuxedo
Bridesmaids Dresses: Modern Bridal Shop
DJ: Nashville Party Authority
Caterer: Stoveworks Restaurant
Cake: Ivey Baird (friend of the bride...these cakes were AMAZING)
Chocolate Fountain: Mere Bulles
(PS. A word to my future brides about chocolate fountains. If you want one at your wedding, hire a professional to do it - don't try to purchase or rent one and do it yourself. They are really tricky, and I have seen too many fountains that stop working or burn and clog up and they end up being a headache. Jen & Mike's worked wonderfully and that's because it was handled by someone who knows what they are doing!)

Here's a slideshow of images from throughout the day (both mine and Matt's). If you want to view it full screen, click HERE.

Mike & Jen - it was a Great Joy to work with you. May God richly bless your marriage.

Happy Memorial Day

It's been a busy morning around the Bynum household today. We're been getting ready to throw a Memorial Day Cookout/Baby Shower...I mean Party (guys are included) for our friends Bobby & Carrie. I just had to take a couple minutes and show you at least one shot from Mike & Jen's wedding last night.

We got some killer images from this event, which I will probably post tonight or in the morning, including a slideshow.

Matt Dunmore came over from Chattanooga to shoot with me again. He is responsible for this awesome patriotic self-portrait with one of the statues on a bench at the Factory.

Take time to remember those who gave their lives defending our country so that we could be have our freedom today. Hope you spend today with the ones you love. Happy Memorial Day!

Charleston & Malacy, Birmingham Wedding With Style

Saturday was the perfect day for a gorgeous wedding in Birmingham, Alabama. Andrea and I had a blast working together to document Charleston & Malacy's wedding and reception. We grabbed a quick shot together in the courtyard before beginning family portraits.

The ceremony was held at Cathedral Church of the Advent in downtown Birmingham.

Malacy looked stunning in a gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown, purchased from Carriage House Weddings.

Carole Sullivan of Lagniappe Designs was the artist behind these amazing flowers. Check out Malacy's bridal bouquet of peonies.

Charleston and his guys were hanging out in the courtyard for photos as well. They were all pretty cool, calm and collected.

Sarah and Lily, the beautiful flower girls.

Malacy and her Dad headed down the aisle for the ceremony. The music in this ceremony was awesome. They had a full choir singing and of course the pipe organ provided accompaniment - it sent chills up my spine.

The wedding rings

Mr. & Mrs. Wilson

The reception was held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and was perfectly orchestrated with amazing details, right down to the pink champagne. Bone Homes & Friends kept the party going late into the evening with fun dance music and soulful slow songs. Wedding Cakes were prepared by Pastry Art Bake Shoppe in Homewood, AL. The delicious food was catered by Hot and Hot Fish Club. Reception pictures in the slideshow!

Charleston & Malacy, thank you so much for inviting us to be part of your wedding. We truly enjoyed our weekend with you in Birmingham!

Touchstone/Wilson Rehearsal Dinner in Birmingham, AL

I am so excited to be shooting in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend for Malacy Touchstone and Charleston Wilson's wedding! I brought my dear friend (and talented photographer) Andrea Hallgren along to be my second shooter. We're having a blast traveling together.

Last night we went to the rehearsal dinner at the home of Best Man, John Cassimus. What a perfect place for a southern evening dinner party.

Malacy actually booked me online using the Pictage photographer's directory. Last night was the first time I had met her or Charleston in person. Aren't they so cute together?

If you've known me for very long, you know that I am clumsy. But - no, I didn't fall in the pool! Even though I would have enjoyed a swim...it was heated with a hot tub attached.

Thanks for inviting us to join you for good food and good company last night. Looking forward to our time together today!

Congratulations Buddy & Amber, Murfreesboro Wedding

Saturday was a gorgeous day for a wedding. The sun kissed everything in sight and brought blue skies over North Boulevard Church of Christ for Buddy & Amber's wedding.

We arrived to find Amber & her Mom getting started with hair and makeup. We were able to chat and catch up on things before the rest of the wedding party arrived. Hair and Makeup by Rain Tree Salon & Day Spa.

I was tickled to get a quick picture with Amber before we started some of our pictures. This day was relaxed and calm before the ceremony. So refreshing!

As we prepared for some group photos with the bridesmaids, I looked over to see Rebecca pulling double duty as assistant/photographer and bouquet holder! Rebecca you were a joy to work with!

Isn't Amber beautiful? She is just radiant.

And Buddy is not so bad himself! Lovin' the striped tie.

Here's the big kiss! Can you see how Buddy quickly flashed a thumbs up to the audience?

A quick hug and portrait.

I love how happy they are in this one!

We headed over to Stones River Country Club for a lovely reception.

Out on the dance floor, these guys were giving Buddy & Amber the same thumbs up that Buddy gave when he kissed the bride!

This was a great bubble-blowing crowd! I was having to seriously protect my camera lens for this exit!

Finally Buddy & Amber were able to escape for a quiet moment in the limo together. They are headed to Hawaii for their honeymoon!

I was blessed to have a great team to work with me at this event. Matt Dunmore drove in from Chattanooga to join me and Rebecca Adamson, who assisted me for the first time this weekend. Thank you guys - you rock!

Check out this slideshow from our day. Click the play button in the center and then give it a minute to load...the bar on the bottom right will show your progress. Enjoy!

Liz & Carl, Destination Wedding in Belize

This post is really long, but I thought you'd want to see the story unfold!

The morning of Liz & Carl's wedding was pretty laid back. After a swim in the pool, Mom, Kyle and I had gone out for a walk down the beach, and we happened upon Liz & Carl returning from a dive. I am so glad I got to get a pic of them in their wetsuits. They went on several trips while they were there, so it will be a good memory for them.

We returned to the Belize Yacht Club and went for another swim. Liz was tanning by the pool to get a last minute glow. Then she headed in for a manicure and pedicure. Irma really did a great job, and Carl stopped by for some entertainment.

Then we all got cleaned up and ready for the action. I joined Liz as she began getting ready, and Kyle caught up with Carl. Mom got ready and headed up to the rooftop to grab some shots to set the scene.

The ceremony got underway without a hitch. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful. People gathered to watch from their hotel rooms, and on the beach.

This was a treat! Will & the Caribbean Shells provided music for the ceremony & reception. They followed Liz & her Dad up the aisle and serenaded us with "Welcome to San Pedro," a catchy little number. Mom, Kyle and I have been singing our own versions of this song ever since!

Carl wrote out his "vows" to Liz, and Kyle captured this shot of him fiddling with Liz's ring while he was reading the vows to her. I love it.

Following the kiss, Liz & Carl went over to sign their marriage certificate. Then they were officially pronounced "husband and wife."

After a bunch of family photos, we spent about 15 minutes with just Liz & Carl to get some great shots of them together.

We even went up onto the rooftop for a few as the sun was setting.

This one is my absolute favorite of the two of them. I want it to be a full spread in their album!

The water was so beautiful. We went out on a pier for a few shots as well.

The reception was around the pool area, surrounded by coconut trees and overlooking the ocean. The tables were decorated in vibrant turquoise and orange.

The cake was pretty tasty!

The reception was lit by twinkle lights under the tents, and the glow of the pool and Splash bar.

I like this shot of Liz & Carl's first dance.

Mom experimented using the large zoom lens, and got this shot of Kyle and I on the dance floor. I can't remember what we were strategizing about. Perhaps the bouquet toss.

Next post is images from our "day-after" shoot in downtown San Pedro with Liz & Carl.

Congratulations JD & April

I just got home from a fabulous weekend in West Tennessee & North Mississippi where JD & April were married at Minor Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday. Kyle went along as my second shooter, and along with capturing moments from the day from an additional perspective, he also kept all of the groomsmen updated on the score of the Memphis v. Ohio State NCAA tournament basketball game using his concealed radio earpiece.

April looked beautiful as she added a few finishing touches to her makeup. Her dress was from David's Bridal.

I love this shot of one of the flower girls, Riley, kicked back on the floor watching the other girls helping April get dressed.

April's grandfather walked her down the aisle. You could see his love for her in his eyes. They glistened with (happy) tears all day long. He was proud to be her escort.

April surprised JD by having his ring inscribed with a special message.

A couple shots of JD & April... April's bouquet was very unique. I really liked longer, creamy, fern-like pieces in there. Marianne's Flower Patch created these and the other floral arrangements.

I think this is a cute shot as JD & April entered their wedding reception at Olive Branch Country Club in Olive Branch, Mississippi. They were so excited to get the party started with their friends and family!

JD really enjoys golf, so his groom's cake, by Your Wedding Cake Store, was a golf ball on some green grass. You can see that JD & April both turned a little green while eating their first bites of cake. April avoided it on her face, but it was under her fingernails for a while!

Sticking with the golf theme, we ventured out on to the putting green for a few putts...here's April, already an encouraging wife to her golfing husband!

Kyle and I had a great time with the Simko & Melton families, and we are excited to release your complete gallery of images to you in a couple of weeks. Click HERE to enter your email and be notified when the wedding pictures are available! Thanks for being so great to work with! Have fun on your cruise!

Drew & Sarah's Nashville Wedding Reception

Drew & Sarah's wedding reception was held at Gaylord Opryland (or Opryland Hotel, for old-school Nashvillians) in the Magnolia Ballroom. We arrived to a cocktail hour, and then the doors opened to a beautiful plated dinner and dancing the night away.

The cake was a tribute to Drew & Sarah's honeymoon...IN PARIS! Cake by Gaylord Opryland.

Here's Drew & Sarah getting down on the dance floor. Justin and Adam of Spangler Entertainment were the DJ's for the night. They kept the party going until after midnight.

Here's a shot of the last dance.

A big thank you to Drew & Sarah and the Williams and Wooldridge families for inviting me to be a part of your day. And thank you to Matt Dunmore, who joined me for the day to provide full coverage for the event. You can check out some of Matt's shots from the day HERE, and be sure to watch his slideshow too. Matt is an excellent photographer and I love it when he is available to work with me...which is not too often!

I am headed to Mississippi tonight for a wedding on Saturday...
Have a great day and get out and enjoy this gorgeous day!

Drew & Sarah's Fabulous Wedding

I promised more pictures from Drew & Sarah's fabulous wedding in Nashville on March 16, so here you go. I hope you enjoy!

After the time we spent in the spa, we headed up to Sarah's suite where she finished getting ready. Her Mom put this necklace on her, which has been worn by all the women in her family on their wedding day for many generations.

Sarah's bouquet was gorgeous. Angel at Dick's Flowers was the woman behind this great bouquet.

Here's the beautiful bride...

And the handsome groom...

A few of the happy couple...

The wedding ceremony took place at the Wightman Chapel at Scarritt Bennett in downtown Nashville. This is a gorgeous chapel built in 1928 and it is on the National Historic Register. The high ceilings and large windows make it a beautiful place for a wedding. Deanna Williams was the woman in charge of keeping the wedding on track, and let me tell you, she was great to work with...very detailed, very calm, etc. Tony & Gipsy Williams with Premier Video Productions were the videographers for the day. I enjoyed working with them as well.

Here's a shot Matt got of me working during the ceremony...

And I snagged one of him as well...

Here's the kiss...

I love this shot as Drew & Sarah exited the church, and all the wedding party began to gather and congratulate them.

It was definitely a nice day...

Wedding Day Hair & Makeup at Relache Spa

There are so many great shots that I want to share from Drew & Sarah's wedding, that I simply cannot do it all in one post. So, I am going to kick it off today by sharing some shots from the ladies' prep time at the salon. Sarah works for the Relache Spa at Gaylord Opryland, so this was the place to be on Friday morning for hair and makeup. Some of the guys even came in to get massages to help them relax before the festivities.

Sarah's hair turned out so adorably. She chose to do a bow with the back of her hair, that mimics the bow on the back of her dress, which you will see in a later post. We couldn't quit oohing and aahing over it.

Then it was on to makeup. The makeup area was really pretty, and a bunch of the girls congregated there to chat while Sarah was finishing up her makeup. The ladies were all so glamorous - the girls at Relache really know what they are doing! Later, when Sarah had an eyelash crisis, they even came to her rescue up in the room.

You can tell that these guys like to have fun at work. They laughed and cut up the whole morning. For those of you who were there and know what happened just prior to this photo - this one's for you!

Here's a final shot from the salon, as they put Sarah's veil on and she caught a glimpse of herself all made up. She looked so beautiful. This long veil was a great accessory. You'll be seeing more of it too.

Hope you enjoyed this start to Drew & Sarah's wedding day. If you are still looking for a great place to take your wedding party for hair & makeup, this is a fabulous option.

Congratulations Drew & Sarah

We had the most amazing day with Drew & Sarah yesterday! I won't be doing a full post about their beautiful day until Monday, but I couldn't wait to share this one picture! As soon as I took it I couldn't wait to see it again - when you know you have a killer shot you just know!

I will say - the first wedding of the year kicked my butt and I am so sore this morning. But I am charging batteries and cleaning my lenses in preparation of photographing the Overby Family this afternoon. Should be fun! Check back next week for Drew & Sarah's wedding re-cap and photos of the Overby's!

All set for our Destination Wedding in Belize

Look what came today. I am SO excited! I am "officially" ready to travel to Belize for Liz & Carl's Destination Wedding in April.

In addition to being ready to go for anyone else's Destination Wedding (or Portrait Session, hint hint) this opens up a world of opportunity for me for short-term missions. Whether photography related or not, I will be excited to see how God can use this little booklet of paper to continue shaping me into the woman he wants me to be! :)

My 2007 wedding season kicks off tomorrow with Drew & Sarah's wedding in Nashville. Check back soon for fabulous wedding photos from me and Matt, my talented second-shooter for the day!

Happy Bride Guarantee

One of the best features of Pictage from the Bride's perspective is the Happy Bride Guarantee. In a nutshell, this means that if you are entirely unsatisfied with your wedding coverage when you view it online, you can receive a 100% refund. I think this in itself is a reason to book a photographer who uses Pictage, because you get a promise that you'll be happy. Check it out.

Another feature is the Pictage Directory and Bridal Recommendations. After each wedding, Pictage sends the Bride a feedback form and she can leave comments about the photographer's work AND whether or not she recommends them to future brides. These comments are then published to our directory listing, so brides can see what other brides are saying. If you go to Pictage and go through the "Find a Photographer" searches, in Tennessee you'll see that there are only a handfull of photographers that are not 100% recommended. This tells me that photographers who use Pictage are working hard to make their clients happy, and I love that.

Just this morning I received a new Bridal Recommendation from Carmen Mabry, whose beautiful picture you're looking at here. Here's what she had to say - "Alison is incredible! She really is a talented photographer. She makes you feel comfortable & really listens to what you want while giving great suggestions you trust! I wouldn't think twice to hire her for any event."

I really appreciate Carmen's comments. Her wedding was gorgeous - awesome colors and unique touches everywhere. Carmen is also a makeup artist and she does a fabulous job for weddings - so if you're in the market for wedding makeup, let me know and I can hook you up with her!

Have a great day!

As I assembled this card and reflected on the weddings I photographed in 2006, I was filled with joy. I was a part of 22 unique and special ceremonies for 22 equally unique and special couples. You inspired me with your love for each other and I am proud to have been a small part of your big days.

Happy 2007, and enjoy kissing your HUSBAND or WIFE at midnight for the first time tonight!

Bryan & Kelly's Slideshow

Merry Christmas! I had a little time this morning before we head to my Dad's house to see what Santa brought for us, and so I put together this slideshow of Bryan & Kelly's gorgeous wedding in Nashville at the end of October. Check out those leaves!

Click the picture or click HERE to watch it. Turn up the volume - there's music.

Another word about Fall Weddings...many brides I talk with think that October is a great time for weddings because of the Fall colors. I want to give a heads up to any girls who are serious about wanting the brightly colored leaves for photos outdoors that the leaves peak around Halloween. This wedding was on Oct 28 and it was perfect. This is why I plan Fall Family Photo weekends for the first weekend in Nov. So, if you want a photo in the leaves in your wedding dress, think the end of the month, not the beginning!

Working to get caught up...

If you are a faithful blog reader, you'll note that my schedule has slowed way down from what it was over the Fall. This is typical for this time of year, but there are also some exciting things going on in my life that I am going to need a little time off in the next few months.

All of the changes in my personal life (read Our Adoption Story blog for more info) combined with my recently healed broken wrist have slowed me down considerably in processing my images for my Fall sessions.

I am down to my October weddings (3.5 to go) and a few portrait sessions left to edit, and I am working as hard as I can to get those processed before the baby arrives. Thank you for your patience and your love and support.

I am planning on being on "Maternity Leave" from shooting in January and February, and I will begin photographing again in March. Please feel free to contact me now and schedule your sessions for the Spring. They will book up very quickly. I am accepting appointments for Wedding Consultations during Jan & Feb though so don't hesitate to contact me. I just may need an extra day to get back to you by phone.

Wedding calls are rolling in and you can tell that booking season is here. Don't hesitate!
