Rave reviews from a BynumPhoto Mama...

After I posted this a few days ago, I got the sweetest email back from Olivia & Sophie's mama Lorrie.

She writes, " you Want me to cry??? HOW do you make it look so dreamy??? I LOVE LOVE LOVE them all and can't wait to see more! I truly enjoyed you being at our home and felt like you were a member of our family. Olivia loved you and was telling her daddy about you and your tea set "you brought just for her". THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! LORRIE."

How can I not be smiling from ear to ear, and thank Lorrie for her nice comments with another sneak preview of a couple pics? I am a huge fan of fan mail, so if you send a nice note I might post up some more pictures of you too! :o)

Jonie & Chris, Nashville Wedding at West End Church of Christ

I couldn't go to sleep without posting up some of the AWESOME images from Chris & Jonie's fabulous wedding celebration today. There's something about a Friday night wedding - they just have a cool feel to begin with. But this day had that little something extra to it...

Steph came along with me as my second shooter, and she got some incredible shots as well - I will post some more up in the next few days.

We decided to go downtown after the reception (our little secret) and take a few romantic night-time photos. Chris & Jonie are spending their wedding night at the Hermitage Hotel, so we went over there a little early to hang out and get some cool pictures.

Slideshow will be posted online really soon. It's already half way done because I showed some pre-ceremony shots at a slideshow at the reception, and it seemed to go over really well. Thanks to Steph for manning the computer.

Headed to Memphis in the morning...give me a call before noon if you need me...I'll have 4 hours in the car to chat.

Oh man, can you see how much fun I had today? I can't say enough how much fun I had with these girls and their Mom, Lorrie. I feel like I made some new friends today. Hope you enjoy these previews.

Photography by Guthrie's Fall Fest - October 21

My good friends Hollis & Edith Guthrie are having a Fall Fest on Saturday October 21 at their studio here in Smyrna. They are doing a special Fall portrait scene in their studio that is perfect for your babies & children in their Halloween costumes or fun new sweaters, etc. Special print package is $20 for 2 5x7 and 4 wallets.

If you didn't already know, Hollis photographed my wedding in 2002, and has been my business mentor ever since. He does awesome portrait work and I highly recommend him for this and for any other traditional portraits that you may want of your children or family. He has been a photographer for over 15 years. Photography by Guthrie is located in the shopping center at the corner of Old Nashville Hwy & Hazelwood, around the corner from Tennessee Urgent Care.

Call 459-2538 to schedule your session and be sure and tell him I sent you!

Graham Family Portraits at Turner Farms

It is a really rainy day here in Nashville. But the sun came out for brief moments here and there and lured us into going forward with a family portraits session. Despite the downpours, I think we still had a great time!

We started out in the clouds, and then by the time we got over to the barn, the skies broke open and there was nothing more we could do but sit and take pictures in the loft. Thank goodness for my mother, who put my Tahoe in 4-wheel drive and headed across the field to pick rescue us.

I was actually not too sad about the rain, because I had some tricks up my sleeves. I had packed the tutus and umbrellas for these little ladies, and they were up for playing in the rain. Aren't Morgan & Lauren just beautiful? They were so sweet to each other - it was great.

Thanks for coming out today Graham Family!

Khris & Carmen's Wedding Slideshow

Steph and I shot so many images at Khris & Carmen's awesome wedding on August 6 at Two Rivers Mansion that it has taken me a little longer than I wished to get this slideshow up to show everyone.

This was an awesome Jewish ceremony that was so touching that it brought a tear to my eye. I loved the salt ceremony too.

Chicks who Click...

...or something like that. Tonight I met up with some other fabulous girls who are photographers in the Middle Tennessee area and we had a great time talking over dinner.

Again, a quick snap in the parking lot after standing around and chatting for 30 minutes...L to R Betsy Butler, Andrea Hallgren, Melanie McLellan, and me. Also in attendance were Angela Disrud and Angie Sliger.

Thanks for including me and I LOVED hanging out with y'all. Can't wait for our next gathering.

Bradley's 6 Month Session

Oh man, this session today with Bradley could not have gone any better. He was in such a good mood and I could have posted every single shot up here as my favorite.

I LOVE photographing babies on the black background. It just highlights the baby so nicely. My favorite studio sessions are always the black background, and this one is no exception.

Here's a few early favorites. Thanks for letting me photograph your sweet baby Jason & Kelly.

FBC Smyrna Staff Photos

I caught up with the staff of our wonderful church, First Baptist Church Smyrna, to take their pictures for the "Staff" page of the new website. Jason says that this page is one of the pages that is receiving the most hits, so he felt like we needed to have pictures of the staff on there to go along with their contact info.

So, here they are (minus David M. whose photo I will add tomorrow).

Thanks for a great session gang.

If you read a ba-zillion blogs every day like I do, you should check out Bloglines.

You can input all your blogs, and then it gives you a little desktop notifier when one of your blogs has been updated. This saves you from clicking on each one and seeing if there is a new post. You can also just click on your Bloglines page and read the updates from a central location. It's a big timesaver and also kind of fun!

Thanks for the tip, Jamie.

Nashville Pictage User Group Meeting (TNPUG)

We snapped this picture in the parking lot as 11 of us dwindled down to 5 and stood around talking for almost an extra hour after the meeting ended tonight. L to R is Mindy & Phil, Whitney & Peter and of course I am in there too.

We had a great meeting talking about the upcoming holiday promotions that Pictage is going to run making sales appealing to our clients and profitable for our studios. Oh man, I can't tell you how much I am in love with Pictage. They just take my photography and put it over the top with clever products and great business sense. I am fortunate to partner with them.

The Blake Family in Smyrna, TN

We had an unexpected blessing yesterday. Derek & Rhonda stopped by our house to visit with their three adorable boys - Myles, Mason & Maxwell. Brad and I had fun catching up - it's been a few years since Derek, Brad & I all worked at the Boys & Girls Club.

Myles just started Kindergarten this year. He and I share the same birthday of August 14, and I remember how excited I was when he was born. He will always have a special place in my heart.

Mason is 3, and he is just like Derek. He wasn't afraid to jump off out of our treehouse while we were all talking- very brave. He enjoyed picking and throwing pears off of our pear tree for Katy (the dog) to chase after.

Maxwell is the baby - his first birthday is coming up in just a few months. This was our first time to meet him in person, and he is a sweet baby. He was so laid back, and friendly. He let Brad and I both hold him with no fuss.

We are so happy to have had a nice visit, and we look forward to a real photo session in just a few short weeks! Love you guys!

Bynum Photography accepted into Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA)

I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).

I can't explain how excited I was to feel my Blackberry buzzing while I was in LA and reach down and receive the email.

As the website states: "WPJA Wedding Photographers are an elite group. The Wedding Photojournalist Association is a highly screened, critical organization. Less than 5% of wedding photographers out there qualify for membership."

I give God the glory for this amazing achievement, and I am excited about the future opportunities that being a WPJA member will provide.

Huntsville Wedding - Congratulations Drew & Christine!

We had a fabulous day in Huntsville, Alabama for Drew & Christine's wedding at Annabella at Cedar Glen. I was fortunate to have the talented and lovely Andrea Hallgren along to second shoot with me today. We had so much fun working together. It's great to be in a community of photographers that believes in sharing and helping each other and we all benefit from it.

Drew & Christine had a beautiful wedding. Their details were in a beautiful "persimmon" color, that carried beautifully through their flowers, cakes, dresses, even Christine's crinoline (petticoat/slip thing under her dress, for the wedding illiterate...).

The first five shots are mine, and the last four are Andrea's.

Slideshow and a few more pics coming soon...

Congratulations guys. Your wedding was precious - just like you! Thanks for letting us share it with you.

Quick Post - We're Headed Home

Our second day of the conference was even better than the first, but I will update you about all of that once we get home. We have to leave the hotel in about 15 minutes to return our car and get checked in and buy t-shirts and candy for our flight. :o)

But - last night we went to the beach. Even though it was cloudy, we still had fun running around and getting soaked and sandy and laughing a lot!

This has been a great trip and we are thrilled to have been here. Now we can turn our attention back to coming home and applying all of this knowledge.

I am excited to get home and rest up because I am heading to Alabama tomorrow morning for Drew & Christine's wedding at Annabella at Cedar Glen. Andrea will be coming along as my second shooter, and I am thrilled because she is a fabulous photographer on her own and I can't wait to work with her again. See you soon!

Pictage Partner Conference, Day 1 Take 2

Tonight we enjoyed a night out with the top down. We cruised through Beverly Hills to Rodeo Drive and walked around the stores like Chanel, BCBG, Stuart Weitzman, Coach, Ralph Lauren, Cartier, etc. We had dinner at Lawry's (Brad - as in Mike Lawry's...) and then headed to Hollywood. We walked around at Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre before coming back to the hotel. The photo of John Wayne's handprints & footprints in front of the Chinese Theatre are for Brad and George Bynum - two of the biggest John Wayne fans I know.

It was a great night. We are having a blast.

I guess, since it is 2:29AM Nashville time, that it is time to go to sleep. We have more learning to do tomorrow!

Pictage Partner Conference, Day 1 Take 1

It has been a full day so far and we're just getting ready to head out to Rodeo Drive for the evening. Some of these photo highlights include: Mike Colon's presentation andJessica Claire & Liana Lehman's X-perience the Money through Marketing & Sales presentation. These were my top two favorite sessions today.

The next couple of photos are the display of Holli & Scott's Wedding Album that I designed and that was a Finalist in the Pictage Album Design Contest. We didn't win first prize, but it is still thrilling to be nominated and displayed for everyone to view!

The last photo is of my interview for the new Pictage Podcast, which will be launched after the conference. Stay tuned for a link to hear the interview in the coming weeks. More photos by morning!

Hollywood Here We Come!

Well, we made it safe and sound to Los Angeles and it is sunny and 72 degrees this morning. We have a few more minutes until we have to be downstairs for our first workshop (we're here to WORK, remember?) so I thought I would catch you up on our trip so far.

We left Nashville with no trouble. Not even one of us had to do extra security checks, no one made a scene over lip gloss or sewing scissors, and our gate was the first one in the concouse. It was very easy. Then, as we were boarding the plane, Mom spotted EmmyLou Harris about to get on the flight ahead of us. We were excited, and Steph told us how she and her son Fletcher had just been listening to her music the night before. We boarded the plane, and to our surprise she sat down in the aisle seat of our row. So I sat by the window, Mom sat in the middle, EmmyLou sat on the aisle, and Steph sat on the opposite aisle.

EmmyLou obviously wasn't interested in talking, as she put her ipod headphones on and got out a book (The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, which I have read and is a great book!) so we didn't bother her. I snuck that paparazzi-style shot with my point & shoot camera just for kicks.

Anyway, we had a non-stop four hour flight, which got a little long, but we made it safe and sound. We dropped in at the OSP Forum party and said hello, but then got some dinner because we were starving. We crashed as soon as we got to our room.

Check back in for more updates this afternoon and evening. After a full day of classes, we'll be going out to Hollywood tonight, so I am sure we'll have some more to report.

Ashley's Senior Photo Shoot Slideshow

Oh I forgot to share the slideshow from Ashley's Senior Photo Shoot in Murfreesboro a few weeks back. She is stunning - see for yourself! Click the photo or click HERE to watch the show. Don't forget to turn up the volume to hear the music and grab a tissue if you know you'll need one.

LA Countdown - 6 Hours Until Departure!

These are a few photos from the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Los Angeles Airport where we will be staying for the next few days. It has the coolest red, black, grey & white decor throughout the hotel, as you can see from the pics. That was one of the most interesting things about our stay last year. We loved it!

Steph will be here in 6 hours and then we will go and pick up my Mom and head out to the airport. And YES, we know that you can't take liquids on the plane. You would think people thought we lived in a cave. EVERYONE has mentioned new airline restrictions when I talk about the trip. ANYWAY, enough of that rant.

I worked hard this weekend but I was not able to finish up the Mabry Wedding for release as I had hoped. I will continue working on it - maybe on the plane and in our downtime. My Mom likes to watch TV at bedtime and I usually get on my computer for a while so I will have a little time.

So, If you see us getting off the plane in LA, don't judge us on our looks because we can't take lip gloss or chapstick in our purses so our lips might be unsightly. :o)

Rhyne Family Portraits in Murfreesboro

I couldn't even think about going to bed tonight without posting a quick slideshow for our dear friends Joey, Christy & Landon from their photo session tonight. We had great weather and great subjects - and you'll see the results are great images.

These are a couple early favorites, and the slideshow has even more. Click HERE for the show. Let me know which picture is your favorite!

Brian & Kelly's Engagement Photos in Nashville

I watched the sun come up at Turner Farms this morning and met up with Bryan & Kelly for a 6:30AM Engagement Session. I love Kelly's sweater and how it brings out the color of her eyes. The session was relaxed and fun - we laughed a lot and made some noise so that we would not happen upon any no-legged friends in the tall grass.

People often look at me like I am crazy when I suggest this time for a photo session, but there are many benefits to scheduling a sunrise Engagement Session. The months leading up to your wedding are insanely busy. You have stuff to do every night after you get home from work or school it seems. Your weekends are consumed by wedding showers, or tux/dress fittings, meeting with vendors, spending time with family, packing in preparation to move, and the list goes on and on. You get up each morning and get ready for your day - why not just get up an hour earlier and meet up with me for your photos? Then you won't have to come home after work, shower and get ready a second time and take up an evening for a session. The light is also very nice early in the morning. If it is a cloudy day then the light is soft and easy, kind of like it was today for Kelly & Bryan. If it's going to be clear and the sun is coming up at full-strength, we'll have a warm glow and some flare to work with.

So anyway, it was good to catch up with you today Bryan & Kelly. Hope you have a great weekend and I will see you soon!

**EDIT**I realized I talked about Kelly's pretty eyes, and then none of the pictures gave you a good look at them. So, I added a photo of Kelly by herself, so you can see. Aren't they beautiful!
