Help the Hood's - Adoption Prayer Bracelets

You may have seen this cool bracelet that I often wear while we meet over coffee or maybe during a photo shoot. It is a prayer bracelet for Jadyn Grace Hood, who will be adopted from China by Pat & Amy sometime in the next several months. Each bead represents a different prayer that they have for Jadyn, like that she will be found quickly when she is abandoned by her birth mother, and that she will know their voices when the Hood's arrive to pick her up and she will know she has found her "forever family." While praying for Jadyn and for other children who are yet to be adopted, I decided that you might want to help the Hood's too.

Here's where you can read more and place an order for a bracelet of your own, with the funds going to help the Hood's with their travel and adoption expenses. There are two different kinds of bracelets, and Amy can also customize the bracelets with beads that represent another country if you want one for your own (or a friend's) international adoption.

Please think about giving these as gifts to your friends, teachers, family members, etc. And say a little prayer for Jadyn today.

Worn Out!

I decided to cancel my trip to Indianapolis because I am just worn out! With two weddings this past weekend and several sessions that need to be edited and released to clients, I am not in the position to get away. So, I am going to enjoy two days with no appointments, and buckle down for some hard-core catching up.

Thursday is our next PUG meeting, so if you're a photographer, or if you are thinking about becoming a photographer, and you want to hang out and learn with other photographers in Nashville, let me know and I will tell you all about it. This Thursday at 6:30pm we will be meeting to discuss the new Pictage Album Designer and talking about album designs, pricing, vendors, etc.

Great Day for a Wedding

Dace and Aimee were married Sunday at the historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Franklin. The ceremony was very beautiful. It was really hard not to take pictures but I understood and completely respected the minister's request to refrain from photography until they were on their way back down the aisle.

I don't typically post a posed group shot like the one here, but I loved this courtyard and I thought that this image was particularly pretty. The posed portraits after the wedding maybe took 15 minutes. Everything flowed smoothly and we got to the reception in no time! The reception was held at Green's Grocery in Leiper's Fork. This place has awesome character. The band was rockin' and the food was delicious.

Phil was my second shooter for the day, and we had fun. He loves my 50mm 1.4 lens and couldn't help showing me several awesome shots he got. We stood outside downloading images and burning discs so long that I had to jump off his car before we left. It was pretty funny. We had a good time together and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to shoot Phil & Mindy's wedding last July, and now less than a year later, we are working together! Fun times.

Bryan & Joahna's Big Day

Bryan and Joahna's wedding day was a beautiful one, with sunny blue skies and warm weather. Becca & I ventured out to Rutledge Falls, in Tullahoma to join them in celebration of their marriage.

As soon as we pulled up to the church we were blown away by the scenery. An awesome red barn made a nice backdrop for photos of the happy couple. And I couldn't wait to march the wedding party up this hill for some scenic outdoor photos.

Thanks to Becca for joining me at the last minute - I had so much fun! And Bryan & Joahna, I pray God's blessings on your marriage and I hope you enjoy your honeymoon!

Bill & Sheri in the South

Hi y'all! I was pleased to welcome Bill & Sheri to Tennessee today for a visit. They live in Philadelphia, and flew in for the weekend for their engagement session. I will be going there to shoot their wedding in late October.

This was the first time we have met in person, but it felt like hanging out with old friends. We borrowed this '53 Chevy pick up truck from Brad's boss, and it was the perfect accessory for our shoot.

We went to Toot's in Smyrna for dinner and enjoyed some fried dill pickle chips. We had no idea that Sheri loves dill pickles, so this worked out perfectly! Thanks for coming all the way to TN for your session. I love the images and can't wait to share them all with you in the next couple of weeks! Safe travels!

Sullivan = HOT

The Sullivan sisters came out to Turner Farms last night for a shoot for images for their CD and new website. They are a fun bunch of ladies who make beautiful music together and I just know they're on their way up up up! Check out their current site for dates of their next performances, and listen to a few clips of their songs online. And don't get burned by these HOT pictures.

Congratulations Tha & Pooh!

I truly enjoyed being with Tha & Pooh tonight at their reception in Smyrna. I estimate that there were more than 1300 people there to celebrate their marriage and have a great time. It was standing room only!

As each guest came in to the reception, Tha & Pooh greeted them at the door. This picture shows the receiving line by the front door.

After the traditional dances, Tha & Pooh changed into their American wedding attire, and came in with their wedding party to dance and cut the cake. It was a blast!

Thanks for the Note

I opened my mailbox to find the sweetest card from Janna's Mom, shown here getting ready on their big day, May 13. It reads:

"Dear Alison,
It was a pleasure to finally meet you at Janna & Scott's wedding. After seeing their engagement photos, I was very excited to know that you would be taking the photographs on their wedding day.

I visited your website and saw your blog for May 13. What a great photo of Janna and Scott. It looked like a photo out of a wedding magazine, actually better than most since there is chemistry between the two of them. I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos from their special day.

God has truly gifted you with the camera and I am so thankful that Janna and Scott chose you as their photographer.

God bless, Mary Jo Bibbs"

You made my day, Mary Jo! Thank you so much for sharing your family with me.

Tha & Pooh

I went out to Cheekwood today with the beautiful Pooh & her fiance Tha. Their families came along to take some formal pictures in the gardens. We couldn't have asked for better weather because the sky was blue and a nice breeze was blowing.

Tha & Pooh are having a traditional Laotian wedding on Saturday morning, and then a reception for 1000 of their friends and family members. WOW. This will be the largest event that I have ever covered before, and the thing I am most looking forward to is seeing Tha & Pooh in their Laotian wedding garments. About half way through the reception they will change into their American wedding outfits, which is what they wore today. Aren't they a nice looking couple?

Thanks Chris

I think it is so nice when a client takes time to send me a nice note. This one perked me up yesterday, and it's from a groom-to-be, which is highly unusual!

Hey I just wanted to say hey and let you know that we love the pics that you have on your blog page and have given out your website address to everyone we know. We had an awesome time and you officially kicked off the whole process for us and it seems more real now than ever that we are going to have this great day. I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your hard work and we can't wait to see all of the other pics. Have a great day!

Talk to you later,

P.S....My family in Huntsville were all blown away by your website and I have suggested to all of them that they use you!!!"

I had a great time with Chris & Jonie, and I am so excited to share all of their images with them soon. For now, since they were sooooo nice, I will add this new image to the blog, of a little dancing in the park.

Ella's First Swimming Lesson

Here's Jason & Shai's puppy Ella, right after her first swimming lesson this weekend at the pond by the Bolivar Country Club. She did pretty well. I love this shot!

Congratulations Scott & Janna!

We couldn't have asked for better weather for Scott & Janna's wedding at Carahills, just outside of Memphis. Thank you for letting me share your special day with you!

This was a special wedding for me because I got to work with my brother-in-law, Jason, who was the videographer for the day. I can't wait to see the finished product because he is very talented and I know he'll do a great job. If you're looking for a videographer, contact Jason through his company's website at Good.Fight.Media. The website is not fully constructed yet but you'll enjoy reading their blogs and can reach them if you desire.

Lucius & Alison

On Saturday morning I went over to the beautiful home of the Drumwright Family, for an engagement session with Lucius & Alison. I photographed Alison's brother Evan's wedding this past October and I am just thrilled to be working with this family again. I enjoyed chatting after our session in the back yard overlooking the pond. Alison & Lucius live in Arkansas but will be coming back to the Memphis area for their wedding in September.

Ivey Family

Look at this precious boy! This is Deacon, son of Aaron & Jamie and brother to Cayden. He is an adorable sweet boy and a blessing to his family. I enjoyed taking your picture today, man.

I love this family shot, where Mom & Dad are kissing and the boys are watching. We went out to Cannonsburgh in Murfreesboro for this session and it was an awesome day to be outside.

Ryan & Lindsey

Wow. Ryan & Lindsey and I met just after sunrise at Centennial Park in downtown Nashville this morning for their engagement session.

It was a little early and took us all a while to get warmed up, but when I saw this shot I knew we had hit the jackpot. Ryan & Lindsey will be married in July.

Happy Anniversary

Today, May 11, was Brad & my fourth wedding anniversary. I love you honey. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Dace & Aimee

It was a cool and rainy day here in Middle Tennessee, but that didn't stop Dace & Aimee and me from starting our day at 6:30 with their engagement portrait session. We met out in historic Leiper's Fork, where their reception will be held, and had fun wandering around and taking pictures.

What I love about these two is that they are really comfortable with the photojournalistic approach to their wedding photography. This means, they are not looking for me to show up on their wedding day and tell them to "look here & smile" all day long. Other than maybe 30 minutes of posed group photos for family history's sake, they are just going to live and enjoy their wedding day and I am going to capture it as it happens and tell their story. I would encourage you to consider this approach to not just wedding photography, but family and children's photography as well. Instead of trying to make your child smile at the camera for an hour, why not hire me to attend their normal activities with you and capture them being themselves? Or have me join you at your home for a few hours and follow your family around? I promise you, the result will be memories that were presented as art, instead of getting your picture made. Try it!

Baby Gray

I ventured out to Woodbury today to meet a new family and photograph Baby Graham, or Gray for short. I was instantly in love with them the moment I stepped out of my car and was greeted by a friendly black lab who dropped a tennis ball at my feet and sat ready for me to throw it! It was my kind of place.

Gray is absolutely adorable and I loved every minute of our session. I can't wait to share the rest of the photos when I am able to post a slideshow.

I also can't wait until we do a family portrait session sometime later this year when Gray is a little bigger and able to sit up and smile on his own a little more. Big brother Fletcher and big sister Emma are also super cute, and my ball-chasin' buddy Jackson will probably come along too to make things more fun.

Hanging Out in Knoxville

I am hanging out in Knoxville with Amanda, Jeremy & Will today and having a great time! Yesterday we went to the mall for a little retail therapy, and came back to their beautiful new home for dinner and a few photos. Our goal for the trip (other than having a great time) was a family photo and Will's 6 Month pictures. We're doing his Baby's First Year panel in overalls - so this is just a cute example of a fun shot we did.

Amanda & I are still in our PJ's and Will is still asleep this morning but we're going to try for a few more photos before heading out to meet Jeremy for lunch downtown. I will be heading back to Smyrna later today.

Congratulations Allen & Melissa!

Allen graduated from MTSU yesterday with his M.B.A. and his family & friends were so excited to join him at a lovely party. But his accomplishments were not the only reason to celebrate. Allen & Melissa were married in Jamaica in March, so this was also a wedding reception for them. The party was hosted by The Wedding Planners, Gina & Jennifer, who are just getting their new business venture off the ground. They did a great job with the event, and keep an eye out for images of the decor and a little more about these girls in the next few days.

Chris & Jonie

Wow. It was a beautiful morning at Montgomery Bell State Park in White Bluff where I met Chris & Jonie for their Engagement Session. The sun was shining, there was an awesome breeze blowing and we just had a really great time.

They brought their dog, Allie, who was such a good girl while we were doing the pictures. She even got to play in the creek. I must say, this is one of the most fun sessions I have done in a long time. Chris & Jonie were up for anything - as shown in the photo of them sitting on a log dangling over the creek. I just know we are going to have a blast at the wedding. I can't wait!

I enjoyed the drive back from Montgomery Bell. I rolled my window down, turned some music up and sang all the way home. Check back for a slideshow of images from this session in a few days, and full coverage will be available in a couple weeks.

Meet Matthew, one week-old son of our good friends Rick & Laura Chambless. He is a sweet little guy and we really enjoyed meeting him tonight for the first time.

I took some photos and put together a little slideshow since Rick & Laura have lots of friends that live across the country and all over the world! I hope you all enjoy meeting Matthew too! Click HERE for the slideshow. Turn up your music and enjoy.

Happy Friday

I went over to the train depot in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon to shoot a mini-session for Jordan's senior pictures. He looked great in his suit and I really like this particular shot. I think it shows off his cheerful personality and his blue eyes.

Today Susan stopped by for a quick portrait session for new head shots to use in the newspaper. Susan is the Executive Director of CASA of Rutherford County. She is a respected leader of the non-profit community, and I was pleased to be able to donate my services to this organization. In addition to our portrait session, I am going to begin the training to become a CASA volunteer. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and I am really pleased that my schedule now allows for it! Let me know if you might want to join me and go through the training. There are a lot of kids out there who need your love and support.

Jonah at 6 Months

Here's Jonah, back today for his 6 Month portrait session. You may remember that he is my first ever birth story baby, and is continuing on in my Baby's First Year program. It's really hard to believe that we only have two more sessions to go this year!

The Baby's First Year program includes 4 sessions in 13 months, and a custom framed panel of one image from each session for $300. As a bonus, you receive $15 in print credit with each session so you can have some prints before the panel is complete. Contact me to schedule your session today!

Coming Soon...

I'll have photos from a couple sessions to post later today since Jonah is coming for his 6 month session around lunchtime and I am going to shoot a senior session for Jordan later this afternoon.

Coming soon will be TWO new websites, one designed for wedding clients and the other for family & kids portraits. The websites are keeping me up at night as I upload images and write new text for each page. But they are extremely cool so it will be SO worth it. Can't wait to share them, but I would say it will likely be a couple more weeks until launch.
