Baby Phoebe's Slideshow

Isn't she beautiful? Phoebe was born on Monday March 20 at StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna. She was a good sport for her newborn portrait session on Thursday March 24 with her parents Chris & Aundrea, and her big brother Max.

As promised, I created a slideshow for Phoebe's session. Click Here to view, and give it a couple minutes to load on a slower connection.

Amy & Michael's Engagement Session

Meet Amy & Michael, who came to Smyrna on Sunday from Mississippi for their Engagement Session.

Amy & I have known each other for about 9 months, through a long-distance e-mail relationship. I have been giving her advice on developing her own photography hobby into a business. Though this was our first time to meet in person, I feel like I know Amy so well already, and I really had fun during our session. Michael was cool too.

I am sad that I am not able to shoot their wedding because I was already booked, but I can't wait to see the photos!

Dress Rehearsal

Actually, I guess a wedding doesn't technically have a dress rehearsal...
Anyway, Brad and I spent the evening at FBC Smyrna for Jennifer & David's Wedding Rehearsal and I am super excited. I have been looking forward to this weekend, as it is my first wedding of the 2006 season. I picked up a few new lenses today, so I took them over and tried them out during the rehearsal. I have to say, I think they did fine! First image is in the worship center, where the ceremony will take place. Second image is during dinner, when the Best Man gave us a little insight into David & Jennifer's "prayer time." Too funny.

Jared & Katie are ENGAGED!!!

Congratulations to Jared & Katie, who celebrated the first day of Spring by getting engaged!

Early in their relationship I felt that they had a special bond, and even stepped out to say that I thought they would get married. Jared said tonight that I was the first person to "call it" that they would end up togther...even before they admitted it to each other.

You would have to search far and wide to find two people as special as Jared & Katie. They are both so committed to their relationship with the Lord, and they both seek to honor Him with their lives. Jared's proposal demonstrated his deep love for Katie as he prayed over her, and then illustrated his desire to serve her during their marriage by washing her feet. Then came the ring, and the rest is history!

Randy & Ashley in Memphis

It was a chilly day in Memphis but that didn't stop Randy & Ashley from joining me at the Memphis Botanic Gardens for their Engagement Session today.

Our session today is the first time that I have met these two in person. I had a great time hanging out and I am looking forward to their wedding in June.

A fun fact about the couple: Randy proposed to Ashley in front of their entire church on a Sunday morning. I think that is pretty guts-y.

Click here for a slideshow from our session.

Jeremy & Nickie in Bolivar

Today was a beautiful day here in Bolivar, TN where I had the joy of meeting Nickie & Jeremy for the first time for their engagement session. Nickie and I have talked back and forth over email in working out the details of her wedding photography package and she decided to go ahead and book it based on viewing my website and our emails. I appreciate her so much for taking that leap of faith!

This adorable couple has been together for nine years. They were so comfortable together - I suspect the years of history in their relationship must have something to do with that. We had gorgeous weather for our session, which took place around the square in "downtown" Bolivar. Full coverage of their session will be available soon by clicking here.

"Good Times" by Chic

Do you know what song was number 1 on the charts on the day you were born? I did not until my friend Christy sent me this link. As referenced in the title, my song was "Good Times" by Chic.

Here's the words to the chorus:

Good times | These are the good times | Leave your cares behind | These are the good times | Good times | These are the good times | Our new state of mind | These are the good times

Fun in the Sun

It's starting to look like Spring here in Middle Tennessee. That means getting back out for fun photo sessions under the sun. On Wednesday, I tagged along as Jeremy, Amanda & Baby Will went over to play in the daffodils at the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna. We took some great shots of Will in the flowers, but this picture is one of my favorites. The joy on Amanda & Jeremy's faces as they have fun with their son is priceless. You can almost hear them giggling as Will looks back down at them and smiles.

Trash the Dress...Any Takers?

I think it would be SO much fun to shoot a session like this, and I think your images would set a new trend and EVERYONE would want to trash their dress.

Read the article so you don't think I am crazy.

And to clarify, I am not talking about ruining the dress permanently, but more like getting the bottom of it dirty or getting the dress wet and then taking it to the cleaners immediately. Think rolling around in the surf/sand on the beach, or on a on a hillside somewhere, in a creek, swimming pool, etc. The possibilities are endless. How fun would it be to end your wedding night with a big cannonball into a pool while you're fully dressed? It's not for everyone, but I know there's someone out there.

And trashing the dress does not have to be done on your wedding night. We can wait until you're home from your honeymoon and do it then. No extra charge for the session!

First E-Newsletter

Many of you are arriving at this blog as a result of my first E-Newsletter and I am so glad you clicked the link and ended up here! This is where the action happens. Let me explain...

My website is where new clients can look at samples of my work, read about me, read about pricing and what sessions will be like, and just generally get a feel for my business. After a while, that site gets old for you, my clients and friends, because you've seen it all before. I was searching for a way to keep people coming back to see what's going on with my business without creating a lot of extra work for myself, because updating my website is very time consuming. When I discovered blogging, I knew I had found what I was looking for.

I post pictures or slideshows after my sessions so you can see what new things I am doing. I also post info when I find something of interest, or things that are FUN, because well, you know I like to have fun. And I want you to have fun too!

If you didn't receive the E-Newsletter that I sent on Monday, please sign up by entering your email address into the white box to the right. You'll be added to my mailing list for future monthly E-Newsletters, and also for other special offers that I may send out from time to time. I also have to say that you can unsubscribe at any time. But I hope you won't ever do that!

I mentioned in my E-News, blogging is really fun, and if you want to start your own blog but aren't sure what to do, just let me know and I will be happy to help you get started. I am headed out to do some springtime photos of 4 month-old Baby Will and will post up a few later. Have a great day!

Go to South Park

I am not a huge fan of the tv show South Park, but I think this site is kind of funny. You can create yourself as a South Park character. Or just create one of your own. I got the link from Jules Bianchi, who got it from Becker, so it's going to spread out quite a bit. This is my rendition of me and my husband Brad.

Pictage Partner Conference in Atlanta

WOW! I am home at last from a three-day trip to Pictage's Partner Conference in Atlanta. It was a great time of networking with hundreds of other Pictage photographers from across the country, and even one from Canada. A few of the highlights for me: Wednesday night's Atlanta PUG meeting, where my friend Sara France shared her tips and tricks about using Pictage in her business; Thursday's conference speakers Denis Reggie and David Jay; meeting several photographers that I know through your posts on the forums; A presentation by Canon (my choice of professional cameras & lenses) which taught me some new techno-speak that I didn't understand but now I do; and dinner at Fado with several new friends on Thursday night. Oh, and shopping all the way home. The photos shown above are just a few of the ones I took. The first is my Mom, Karen King, and Nathan Holritz sporting their new TNPUG t-shirts. The second is of me & Amber, Nathan's lovely wife and fellow Tennessean. The last photo is from Thursday's dinner with Tim & Keri, Mom & Me, Eric & Amy, Jerrod, Christian Michael, Liana, Garrett & Joy, Nathan & Amber, DJ, Sara and David. We had a ball!

It's good to be home and I am gearing up for a Bridal Session tomorrow morning with Holli and I am hoping for good weather. Holli's Bridal Portraits will be private but she's bringing along her fiance Scott for some fun shots that I will be thrilled to share!

Chattanooga

We went to downtown Chattanooga after the PUG meeting on Thursday night, and here's a couple pictures of Nathan & Amber, Sara, and me by the Choo Choo, and after dinner! Thanks for the pictures Nathan!

Turner Farms

Renovations are underway out at our family's homeplace that we're calling "Turner Farms." The main house was built in 1851 by Rev. Whitsett from the Concord Baptist Church, and sold to my great-grandparents in the 1940's. My Great-Grandfather raised cattle, so the barn on the property was his. Over the past few years, the homeplace and all of its little out-buildings, the barn and the field in between has become a popular place for outdoor photos. Photo sessions will probably not be able to take place out there until late Summer 2006, when the grass has grown back in and the property is not a construction zone anymore. We wouldn't want anyone to get hurt! I stopped by on Friday to take a few photos of the progress. It was a gorgeous day, as you can tell by the blue skies. Those are almost California-esque blue skies!

Duke's going to be a Daddy?

This is Duke, my step-dad's chocolate lab. He is a great dog...he loves to swim, catch frisbees, and he will even let you drive a golf ball and then go get it and bring it back to you. Could you ask for anything more? Anyway, Duke and Annabelle (his other chocolate lab) are expecting puppies in about six weeks. They are both from large litters, so Mom & Bret are bracing themselves for six, eight, ten, twelve...who knows how many puppies. If you're interested in an AKC Lab with papers, leave comments with your contact info and we'll let you know when they arrive.

Brad & I went to Landon's Birthday Party yesterday. I cannot believe that he is turning three on Monday. He is getting so big and some of the things that he says are just hilarious!

BlackBerry Reaches Settlement in Dispute

(AP) NEW YORK - The maker of the BlackBerry e-mail device Friday said it settled its long-running patent dispute with a small Virginia-based firm, averting a possible court-ordered shutdown of the BlackBerry system and a disruption of wireless service for millions of users.

Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM) has paid NTP Inc. $612.5 million in a "full and final settlement of all claims," the companies said.

James Balsillie, RIM's co-chief executive, said the company was "taking one for the team," sparing its customers and partners the uncertainty of litigation.

"We're happy to do that to support the team, but do we feel good about it? No," Balsillie said.

At a hearing last week, NTP had asked a federal court in Richmond, Va., for an injunction blocking the continued use of key technologies underpinning the BlackBerry wireless e-mail service.

At the hearing Friday, Judge James R. Spencer expressed impatience with RIM and urged a settlement.

"He basically questioned the sanity of RIM, and said it wasn't acting very rationally," said Rod Thompson, patent attorney at Farella, Braun and Martel in San Francisco. "His prodding of the parties worked."

The settlement is on the low end of expectations, Thompson said, especially since RIM will not have to pay any future royalties. There had also been talk of NTP receiving a stake in RIM.

Shares of RIM shot up $13.78, or 19 percent, to $85.70 during after-hours trading, when the settlement was announced. They had closed 53 cents higher at $71.92 in regular trading Friday on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
